Covid-19 Protection Framework

What Does the New COVID-19 Framework Involve?

As New Zealand looks toward the future, the government has put in place its COVID-19 Framework or traffic lights to protect New Zealanders and to provide fully vaccinated people with more freedoms. As the world, including New Zealand, look to open up again and manage COVID-19, the government is looking to accomplish reopening in the safest and most controlled way possible.

The COVID-19 Framework is designed with three settings, Green, Orange, and Red. It’s designed to minimize the impact of COVID-19 and provide protection at the same time.

The minimisation aspect of the plan is to control the spread of COVID-19 while also minimising hospitalisations to the lowest level possible. COVID-19 outbreaks will be contained and controlled, and if possible, eliminated. However, there will be low levels of COVID-19 in the community.

The protection aspect of the plan involves vaccinations, boosters if required, infection prevention measures, and contact tracing, and case management. The new COVID-19 Framework is designed to give people as much certainty and stability as possible moving forward into the future while reducing the need for enforced lockdowns throughout the community.

What Are the Key Components of the COVID-19 Framework?

1. Vaccination – High rates of vaccination are a key tool in protecting people in New Zealand from COVID-19. It is a core component of the new COVID-19 Framework.
2. My Vaccine Pass – The My Vaccine Pass is your official record of vaccination and provides you with your vaccination status for use throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
3. Capacity Limits – All capacity limits are based off 1mt distancing and designed to allow as much freedom as possible while still limiting how much contact people have with each other.
4. Record-Keeping – QR codes issued by the New Zealand Government must be displayed in all workplaces and on public transport. This allows the NZ COVID Tracer App to be used in the case of contact tracing.
5. Localised Protect and Lockdowns – Under the COVID-19 Framework, lockdowns and protections can be used in three levels to control high rates of transmission if required.

It’s difficult to run a financially viable business when you’re at risk of being shut down because of an outbreak in your area or other areas of the community.
Moving forward, as the world looks at reopening, the COVID-19 Framework was designed to give people as much certainty as possible while also managing COVID-19 as safely and effectively as possible.
